Outreach Opportunities

As we continue to make connections with our content standards to the real world, consider how your classroom can make an impact in our own Littleton community and/or beyond by donating to a micro-fund or buying a chicken for a family through Read to Feed programs. How can technology connect areas of need to areas looking for places to give back? Here are a few.


Kiva Microfunds is a 501 non-profit organization that allows people to lend money via the Internet to low-income entrepreneurs and students in over 80 countries. Kiva's mission is “to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty.” Dreams are universal, opportunities are not.

Heifer
We empower families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity – but our approach is more than just giving them a handout. Heifer Read to Feed links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. Buy a chicken or other animal for a family. Our animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs, and honey that can be traded or sold at market.

Desmos Calculator

In addition to the College Board - approved hand-held calculator that students may bring to the test, the MathTest — Calculator portion of the digital SAT®, PSAT™10, and PSAT™ 8/9 will include the Desmos online calculator as an embedded tool. Students should practice using the calculator tool before test day through the Student Digital Test Preview, or click here for a direct link to the calculator. More Information Here Colorado State High School Assessments (SAT and PSAT) are still paper-based at this time.

Google Educator Certification

The Google for Education team is covering the cost of the Google Educator Certifications for teachers who are interested in taking the exam(s) before the end of the year. 

Exam vouchers expire 12/31/17. To get a voucher for Level 1, Level 2, or the Trainer Skills Assessment, fill out this form.

What an amazing weekend of learning! Thank you to Littleton teachers who represented 55 LPS grant awarded teachers attending on either Saturday or Sunday of the Google Summit. We hope to have more opportunities like this in the future.

Padlet - Voting Is A New Feature

In late October, Padlet, added a new feature for voting on posts/notes added to a wall. The new feature is called reactions and it lets you and your students give a "thumbs-up" on a note, a star rating on a note, or give just simple "like" a note. The reactions feature can also be used by teachers to give a numerical grade to a note. To use the new voting and grading features you just need to turn on reactions in the settings section of your Padlet wall.
